Shannon Ridge E - News
August 23, 2023
Dear Friends,
Here’s the latest news:
1. School bus safety. To keep our kids safe, please keep your speed within the 30-mph limit and slow down and be prepared to stop when you approach a school bus or our kids.
2. Community Garage Sale. SRHOA is sponsoring a community garage sale on Saturday, October 7, 7:45 AM – 2:30 PM. To direct customers to your sale, we recommend you put signs from Shannon Ridge Dr all the way to your house, especially if you live on a side road. When your sale ends, please dispose of all signs, pick up litter your customers may have left on the roadsides, and put away all unsold items. If it rains on October 7, you can take your chances, but our ad will list Saturday, October 21 as our alternate date.
3. Burn ban status: There is currently a burn ban. However, according to the Wilson County Emergency Management Office’s website at wilsoncountytx.gov, “You are allowed to burn household trash as long as it is burned in a barrel with a screen top. Be sure to stay out with the fire and have a water source nearby.” For the latest restrictions on burning, contact the Sheriff’s Department at 830-393-2535.
4. Road maintenance.
Q: Who is responsible for maintaining our roads?
A: Wilson County owns our roads and is solely responsible for all maintenance. We contact Commissioner Russell King frequently requesting repair work for our roads. We encourage you to contact him as well as the squeaky wheel often gets the grease. Phone: 830-393-7342; email: raking@wilsoncountytx.gov.
5. Animal shelter donations and volunteers needed. Donations for the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter (wcnkas.org) can be made via FaceBook or PayPal at https://www.paypal.me/wcnkas (email: alena@wcnkaas.org) or call 830-333-3888 to donate via credit card. If you would like to volunteer to help them, call 830-333-3888.
6. SRHOA meeting. On Saturday, October 21, at 2:15 PM, we will vote for officers at the Wilson Co. Ag. Extension meeting rooms 9 and 10, 1103 4th St, Floresville, on the south side of the old school complex that houses the library and the Elections Office. Please park in front of the library. The agenda and ground rules are attached.
The following offices are up for election: President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Representatives 1, 3, 5, and 6. If you would like to run for or nominate someone for one of these offices, please let us know by October 11 so we can add the names to the ballot before we print them. Candidates should email us information about themselves that we can post on our website (shannonridge.org) for members to read before the election.
If you will not be able to attend the meeting in person, The Business Organizations Code, Section 22.161, allows you to vote for officers by proxy. If you would like to vote by proxy, please send an email to us by October 11 with your name, address of the lot for which dues are paid, and name of your proxy (who must currently be a voting member), and we will email a proxy form for you to complete and give to your proxy.
7. Many thanks to all who help keep Shannon Ridge such a peaceful and attractive neighborhood. Special thanks to our law enforcement officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to protect us and to their families who support them.
God bless and thanks so much for your support!

On Sunday, November 13, from 4-5 PM, at 720 Killarney Rd, we will have a SRHOA meeting and election for Vice President, Parliamentarian, and Area Reps 2 and 4 and to vote to approve an amendment to our Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws to allow proxy voting in the future so that every member's voice can be heard. We need one owner to vote. If you haven't already done so, please email the name(s) of the attendee(s) from your household so we have an idea of how many ballots to print. Please bring a chair.
2. Member “homework.” Since we have a lot of business to cover in 1 hour, please do the following so we don’t have to waste time at the meeting:
a. If you would like to run for one of the offices or want to nominate someone, please let me know by November 6 so we can place the candidate’s name on the ballot before we print them. Candidates should email to me information about themselves that we can post on our website, shannonridge.org.
b. Please read the information provided by the candidates on our website, shannonridge.org, so you know who to vote for. Just click on “SRHOA 2022 Election Information Page.”
c. Please read the attached minutes from our last meeting and email corrections to me by November 1.
3. Halloween volunteers still needed. If you haven’t already done so, please email me at shannonridgehoa@yahoo.com if you can hand out treats at home, "trunk or treat" at the assembly point below or would like Janelle and me to do so for you.
4. Halloween schedule, October 31:
6:20 PM: Drivers and those who want to "trunk or treat" meet at the assembly point at the corner of Lucky Ln and Shamrock Dr so that families who will not be handing out treats at home can hand out treats there. Please bring blankets to keep your kids warm and use your flashers for safety.
6:30-8:30 PM: Hand out treats. Setting up at the side of the road will speed up the process; keep a light on so the drivers can see you.
Our neighborhood covers a huge area. To see the maximum number of kids, many people set up along the most heavily traveled roads on Halloween: Shannon Ridge Dr (west of Emerald), Shamrock (west of Lucky), Tipperary (east of Blarney), Killarney (west of Emerald), and Leprechaun (between Shannon Ridge Dr and Killarney).
5. Many thanks to all who help keep Shannon Ridge such an attractive and peaceful neighborhood. Special thanks to our law enforcement officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to protect us and to their families who support them.
God bless and thanks so much for your support!

3. Vehicles vs. deer. Here are a few tips to avoid injuring or killing them and incurring costly repairs to your vehicle.
- Follow the 30-mph speed limit.
- If you see a deer, immediately slow down and look for others since they are herd animals. Be prepared to stop since they can panic and dart in front of or crash into the side of your vehicle.
- Don't tailgate and be prepared to slow down or stop when following another vehicle as they may spot danger before you do.
4. SRHOA election/meeting.
